The work of the Cross

The cross was raised up with a thud and the terrible work of atonement for mankinds sin began. As Jesus dies the crowd is hushed, heaven is pierced and it seems that the earth stopped. After the resurrection we discover what He did for us on the cross.  2000 years ago when Jesus died and rose again, we were put right with God as He became the last sacrifice for sin, offered once for all mankind.Through the cross Jesus delivers us from the penalty of sin and makes us right with God. We were justified by faith, through the Cross for as we believe on Him, God declares us not guilty.Through the work of the cross we are also freed from the law.  All the law and rules that were against us; that we had broken, were taken away and nailed to the cross. In those days when a bill was paid in full, the receipt was often nailed to the debtor’s door to inform the community that the debt had been paid in full.  On the cross we are also redeemed from Satan’s kingdom. Redeemed means to buy back, like what happened when slaves were brought back by the original owner in a market, from a later owner.  We are purchased to become God’s glad servants. We were Satan’s slaves to drugs, immorality or helplessness but Jesus came and redeemed us back from the devil.  We are now slaves in service of our new Master and self-sacrificing God.Friend, Jesus and His cross justifies us, frees us and redeems us completely As we appropriate His saving work and His person by faith.
