Salvation is not amnesia

When you have wounds to your soul from abuse or divorce we end up with shame from things you can’t forget. They are injuries to your soul and they will not vanish for your convenience. The healing of the memories is not a frontal lobotomy or by God wiping the hard drive of our mind, but the healing is when the memory doesn't hold any pain or bitterness any longer. Our memory has the ability to remember good and bad. Just imagine if God made it so we didn't remember anything bad. Down at the mall the kids acting badly but every time you got home, you couldn't remember what they did wrong. You would keep on using the most horrible recipe because you can’t remember the next time that it was bad last time. You’d never fix anything and you would never avoid anything.

There would be no such thing as proverbs or wisdom. We would all be dead in a year. To grow in wisdom we have to learn from the past. The past though must be re-interpreted and we need to let the pain from past trauma, motivate us to increase our insights in the present.

Your memory might be wounded, it might have some defective bytes, but a wounded person is still valuable to God.
Friend God only requires you to be a person to be incredibly valuable to Him: wounded sure, a mess maybe but still valuable and a child He is seeking to heal.
