Principle or Particular

The Bible is a story book of true stories; stories about the good the bad and the ugly; of murder, heroism; beauty and vice.  Good people speak, bad people speak and even donkeys speak and we still know it as the Word of God. Though it is all inspired, not every verse is speaking to us personally.  Some words were written or spoken to a particular person and if it is written to a particular person then is not written directly to us.  Abraham is told to take his son and offer him as a sacrifice but that is not a verse for us to obey.  This command is directly to Abraham. And what is written to a particular person is not written to you. However often times precepts which are not written to us may illustrate a principal which may generally apply to us. One principal from that story is that sometimes, God asks us to sacrifice that which is dear to us. (Obviously not a child)Of course God does speak to us personally many times from the Bible. You just know it by the Spirit. It is revelation. You can’t shake it - you just know what you know.So friend, if you believe God is saying to you to do personally what he told somebody to do particularly we should check to see whether it is also a principal.
