Debt collector
Human beings are very good at collecting debts from people that owe them, or from people that they thought should have met their need. A young couple gets married and commits to each other to love and give themselves to meet the needs of the other. She has a great vision of prince charming who is going to be romantic, helpful, tidy and charming but after a year, she realises he’s not. He has the idea she will be an exquisite cook, meet his every sexual wish and always agree with him about everything, but she doesn’t! So they get to the place where they both are thinking “You owe me! I’m disappointed in you.”
Jesus told the story of a man who was forgiven 6 million, a debt he could never pay. The man asked for patience but the King grants him forgiveness. But because he never heard the word forgive and only thought in terms of receiving patience, he went out and tried to extract the small amount of money from people that owed him. He found a man who owed him only 5000 and locked him up till he could pay it all. The king heard about it and said: “I forgave you but you didn’t forgive your debtors, so you will be delivered to the tormentors till you pay.”
Friend, God is not being patient with us till we get our act together. He has forgiven us. Be in awe of the forgiveness that God has shown to us and let all un-forgiveness go toward your spouse and others. Un-forgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting them to get sick but unfortunately, the only one who gets sick is you.
